Mediterranean Club for Burns and Fire Disasters on the Internet
on 1st December 1996

After three years in the Internet the Mediterranean Club for Burns and Fire Disasters (MBC) has decided to update its site in order to meet the requirements and requests of an ever-growing number of users.
In 1996, when we decided to create the MBC site, we were sure that this would help to promote the purposes of the Club, which are:

  • to extend reciprocal and on-going studies on burns among Member countries
  • to publicize studies, research, and common programmes in the respective fields
  • to promote new instruments for the training of young physicians, nurses, and students

The results we have obtained have more than met our expectations.
The services we have set up have enabled our Members to have closer collaboration with the Club and its activities as well as a more rapid exchange of information between them and the numerous experts and others interested in the field of burns and fire disasters, who have thus learned about the Club and have been encouraged to join.
In the meantime the activities of the MBC have expanded. It has become a WHO Collaborating Centre and initiated valuable action in the field of humanitarian medicine, establishing close links with the International Association for Humanitarian Medicine (IAHM).
In order to satisfy the new demands and to handle the increased activity, the site has been renewed both graphically and in content.
So what have we done? We have reorganized the old contents in a new web site and added seven new sections:

  1. Notice board
  2. WHO section
  3. Humanitarian action
  4. Annals
  5. Medit Line
  6. What's new
  7. Search engine
  8. Links related sited

Notice board:
The Notice board presents news of particular interest that is highlighted directly in the site's home page.
The Notice board always contains an editorial signed by the President, the Secretary General, or a Club Member with ideas or proposals of general interest for the achievement of the Club's purposes.
The Notice board will also present early announcements of important forthcoming events and reviews of publications of common interest.

WHO section:
The site hosts a section dedicated to the World Health Organization and to the action of the Club as a WHO Collaborating Centre.

Humanitarian action:
This section contains activities relating to support and co-operation programmes with the International Association for Humanitarian Medicine (IAHM).

Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters:
Autonomous site containing issues of the journal in computer format.
The first page accesses directly to the most recent issue published while other issues are available using the appropriate links.
The complete collection of Annals available as from January 2000.

Medit Line:
This section is in two parts.
The first contains relevant articles that have been submitted to the Editors. These may eventually be published in Annals.
The second part contains relevant journals published in traditional printed form in different parts of the world and which, on request, can be made available in the site in computer format.

What's new:
This section reports the latest important news on burns, fire disasters and the Club found in journals, books or communicated by Members.
