Burn patients place considerable strain on the clinical team. To achieve the best results decisions have to be made quickly. However the opinions are numerous and good advice about the right choice is not always easy to obtain. The authors of Burns and their Treatment have recognised this need and sought to fill it. For two editions they have provided clear and straightforward guidance for all who provide clinical care for bum patients. The third edition builds upon the approach of its successful predecessors, but is substantially rewritten to bring it into line with recent advances in understanding and practice.
Among the many changes there are more detailed descriptions of early surgical treatment, a discussion of the problems of mass burns casualties and in addition, much fuller epidemiological statistics. There is greater emphasis on burns of special sites - respiratory bums, bums of the eye, the hand, bones and joints - and also on minor burns which can be the cause of complications if not adequately treated at an early stage. Rational treatment demands a sound understanding of the physiological aspects of burn injuries, and these are again discussed in detail.
In its currently revised and expanded edition, Burns and their Treatment will be welcomed by all who need a short reliable guide to practice.
