From the beginning the Mediterranean Council for Burns and Fire Disasters has had close links with the World Health Organization. Indeed WHO was officially present at the inaugural meeting of the MBC in June, 1987, and the two institutions have kept an active collaboration, culminating in the MBC being nominated in 1997 the scientific WHO Collaborating Centre for Prevention and Treatment of Burns and Fire Disasters.

2006
- 14th Meeting of MBC-WHOC C C, in ass. with Association Marocaine de Brulologie and International Association for Humanitarian Medicine. Casblanca, Maroc.
- Two MBC' scholarships given in favour of WHO for burn therapy.
- Realization by MBC-WHOC C and European Commission of the BURNET Project of EUMEDIS Programme. The BURNET is a "The information technology and management of burns and fire disasters".
- WHO asked to MBC-WHOC C guidelines for pain tratment burns.
- MBC-WHOC C Instructional Course on Burns and Fire Disasters. Amman, Jordan.

2005
- The WHO confirms the designation of MBC as " WHO Collaborating Centre for Prevention and Treatment of Burns and Fire Disasters".
- International IAHM-Pugwash Conference on "Current Problems of Health and Society: the right to ask, the duty to help - The resurgence of nuclear violence and instability. Org. by International Association for Humanitarian Medicine in coll. with MBC.
- Assistance to WHO by acting as Coordinating Point for the WHO Collaborating Centre for EHA: Mr. Loretti, of the Department of EHA is speaker at IAHM-Pugwash Conference.

2004
- Report from a Collaborating Centres( India) for pooling and dissemination by MBCto other Centres.
- On behalf of WHO the MBC sends burn and fire disasters exsperts to Nigeria where a disastrous fire due to kerosene explosion with very high mortality and morbidity .
- 13th Meeting of MBC- WHOC C, Nicosia, Cyprus.
- 16Th Congress of Italian Society for Burns in coll. with MBC-WHOC C, Palermo, Italy.
- Invitation from UN New-York to contribute to the ECOSOC workshop on Disaster, Conflict prevention and Peace.
- In Iraq, at the height of the war no injured patient or severely ill persons was allowed by military to go uot for tretment. The MBC facility in Palermo Civic Hospital and GratUniversity Hospital were the first and only institition to receive and treat such patients.

- MBC meeting at United Nations, New York, with the view to accreditation of Consultative Status in ECOSOC.
- At the request of WHO, the President of MBC participated in and reported on the international wrapping-up conference of the IDNDR Decade.
- The Secretary General and President of MBC were received at the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Copenhagen, to discuss fields and modalities of extended collaboration.
- Upon the publishers' request, the President of MBC contributed the chapter on Disasters and Conflicts in the forthcoming UNESCO "Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems".
- The Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Burns has been requested by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Disasters in Moscow to co-chair the WHO sponsored Eurasian Conference on Disasters, in 2000.

- First Meeting of all the WHO Collaborating Centres on Disasters, in St. Petersburg. The Director of the MBC Centre co-chaired the meeting in the absence and on behalf of the Director, WHO/EHA.
1997
- Advanced Seminar on Human Rights, Humanitarian Law and Ethics in Disaster Situations, organized by the MBC at the WHO Collaborating Centre, CEMEC.
- The Mediterranean Club for Burns and Fire Disasters officially designated "WHO Collaborating Centre for Prevention and Treatment of Burns and Fire Disasters". Formal protocol signed in Palermo on 9 October, 1997.
- The MBC journals "Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters" establishes a special "WHO Page", regularly featuring WHO's work in disasters.
- The "Annals" accessed at the central Library of WHO and Regional Libraries.
- MBC provides an annual WHO/MBC Scholarship as a service to WHO.
1996
- At the request of the WHO Regional Office for Europe the MBC conducted a special mission to Moldova for reorganization of its fire and paediatric burn services.
- Special Seminar on Refugee Health and Mass Population Displacement Disasters, organized by the MBC at the WHO Collaborating Centre, CEMEC.
1995
- International Conference On Burns and Fire Disasters, Italy, with the International Society for Burn Injuries, in official relation with WHO.
- Fire disaster and explosion in train tunnel, Baku, Azerbaijan. At the request of WHO the MBC led an emergency mission to Azerbaijan.
1994
- Scientific meeting with the First Congress of Spanish Burn Association, with participation of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. La Coruña .
- At the request of WHO, the MBC carried out an emergency mission to Gdansk, Poland, for a major fire disaster in a discothèque and its consequences.
1993
- World Health Day 1993, dedicated to Health Disasters Reduction. MBC contributed to its organization and to the fire hazard aspects.
1992
- Meeting of the Mediterranean Burns Club, Palermo, with the participation and scientific contribution of the WHO Headquarters ERO.
- Sixth international training course at CEMEC on industrial/nuclear disasters.
- Second International Conference on Bburns and Fire Disasters - Perspectives 2000 with WHO participation. Book issued, with chapter on WHO.

- Fifth international training course on fires and disaster management, organized for the WHO Collaborating Centre in San Marino, CEMEC.

- Seminar on the Epidemiology of Burns, University of Aleppo, Syria with the collaboration of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.

- Fourth International training course on Burns given at CEMEC.
- Mediterranean Congress on Burns, Morocco, with participation of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
1989
- Third international training course organized for CEMEC.
- Training course on burns and chemical accidents organized for Pakistan, with the collaboration of the WHO Regional Office.
1988
- MBC identified by the United Nations as a scientific institution able to lead in the field of fire disasters within the UN International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction - IDNDR 1990-2000.
- Second MBC training course on Mass Burn Disasters prepared for the WHO Collaborating Centre CEMEC.
1987
- Inaugural scientific meeting of the MBC, Palermo. Message from the Directorate of WHO, and scientific cooperation.
- The President of MBC has been the Director of the WHO Department of Emergency Relief Operations, thus facilitating collaboration
- MBC organized the First International Training Course on Major Emergencies at the San Marino WHO Collaborating Centre, CEMEC.
