INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Before submitting a manuscript, authors are required to read carefully these guidelines to make sure that their submission is in the proper format as required by the journal.

Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters is a bilingual journal. Original English or French manuscripts are acceptable for publication.

Scope:
"Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters" is the official publication of the Euro-Mediterranean Council for Burns and Fire Disasters (MBC) and the European Burns Association (EBA). It is a peer-reviewed journal directed to an audience of medical as well as paramedical personnel involved in the management of burn injuries. The journal publishes original articles in the form of clinical and basic research, scientific advances. It publishes also selected abstracts from international journals.

Ethical/Legal Considerations:
A submitted manuscript must be an original contribution not previously published (except as an abstract or preliminary report), must not be under consideration for publication in another journal. When accepted, it must not be subsequently published in another journal in similar form, in any language, without prior consent of the Editors of Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters. Each person listed as an author is expected to have participated in the study to a significant extent. Although the editors and referees make every effort to ensure the validity of published manuscripts, the final responsibility rests with the authors, not with the journal, its editors, or the publisher. The editorial office will acknowledge receipt of the submitted manuscript that will be given a manuscript number for reference.

Copyright and Conflict of Interest:
Responsible author must sign a copy of the journal's "Authorship Responsibility, Financial Disclosure, and Copyright Transfer" form (available at: Copyright Form) and submit it with the original manuscript.
ABFD is committed to ensuring that research is as free from bias as possible, and is seen to be so. Authors must declare all relevant competing interests for consideration during the review process.

Permissions:
To be able to use for a new publication in another journal quotations, tables, or illustrations that have been published or accepted for publication in Annals, authors must obtain the written permission from the editors of Annals that are the copyright owners. Authors are required to acknowledge this permission in their new publication.

Preparation of Manuscript:
Manuscripts that do not adhere to the following instructions will be returned to the corresponding author for technical revision before undergoing peer review.
In case an author needs to have the language of his manuscript edited by a native-English or French speaking language editor who is also a scientific expert, the help of an editing service is recommended. Use of the editing service is neither a requirement nor a guarantee of acceptance for publication. However, improving the language quality of a manuscript will make it easier to understand during peer review, meaning that a manuscript can be judged on its scientific merit only.

Title page:
Include on the title page (a) complete manuscript title; (b) authors' full names, highest academic degrees, and affiliations; (c) name and address for correspondence, including fax number, telephone number, and e-mail address.

Unstructured abstract and key words:
Limit the abstract to 250 words. It must be factual and comprehensive. Limit the use of abbreviations. List three to five key words or phrases.

Text:
Organize the manuscript into five main headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. Define abbreviations at first mention in text and in each table and figure. If a brand name is cited, supply the manufacturer's name and address (city and state/country). Acknowledge all forms of support, including pharmaceutical and industry support, in an Acknowledgments paragraph.

References:
The authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Numerically cite the references in the text in the order of appearance. Key the references at the end of the manuscript in the order they appeared in the manuscript, not alphabetically. Cite unpublished data, such as papers submitted but not yet accepted for publication or personal communications, in parentheses in the text. If there are more than four authors, name only the first four authors and then use et al. Refer to the List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus for abbreviations of journal names, or access the list at www.nlm.nih.gov/archive/20130415/tsd/serials/lji.html. Sample references are given below:

Figures:
Cite figures consecutively in the text, and number them in the order in which they are discussed. Figures must be submitted as tiff or jpeg format only with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Figures must be submitted as separate files and must not be embedded in the text.

Patient anonymity:
It is the author's responsibility to ensure that a patient's anonymity be carefully protected and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the manuscript was performed with informed consent and following all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s) with which all the authors are affiliated.
Photographs of recognizable persons should be accompanied by a signed consent form by the patient or his/her legal guardian authorizing publication. Masking eyes to hide identity is not sufficient.

Figure legends:
Legends must be submitted for all figures and have an explanatory legend typed on a separate page. They should be brief and specific, and they should appear on a separate manuscript page after the references.

Colour figures:
The journal accepts for publication colour figures that will enhance an article. A fee may apply.

Tables:
Cite tables consecutively in the text and number them in that order. Tables should be typed on a separate page, and include the table title, appropriate column heads, and explanatory legends (including definitions of any abbreviations used). Do not embed tables within the body of the manuscript. They should be self-explanatory and should supplement, rather than duplicate, the material in the text.

Review process:
All submitted manuscripts will be submitted to independent reviewers for opinion. The review process is blinded and may take up to 2 months.

Submitting a revision:
When submitting a revised manuscript, a cover letter must be attached that addresses each point and how the manuscript was changed as a result. In the revised manuscript, changes made to the original manuscript are either tracked using Microsoft Word or highlighted in red font so that reviewers can easily find the alterations.

After Acceptance:
After acceptance of a manuscript, authors will be required to pay an editorial fee to cover partly expenses of text ediding, layout, and abstract translation to French. When the payemnt is made, final editing and layout of the manuscript will proceed. Authors will be required to approve the final proofs before publication. Pending publication in Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters, accepted articles will appear in "MeditLine"

Avant de soumettre un manuscrit, les auteurs sont tenus de lire attentivement ces lignes directrices pour s'assurer que leur manuscrit est dans le format approprié requis par la revue.

Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters est un journal bilingue. Les manuscrits en Anglais ou Français sont acceptables pour la publication.

Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters (ABFD) est la publication officielle de l'Euro-Mediterranean Council for Burns and Fire Disasters (MBC) et de l'European Burns Association (EBA). C'est un journal revu par les pairs publiant des articles originaux concernant des études humaines ou expérimentales, des mises au point sur les données actuelles de la science et des résumés d'autres revues internationales. Elle consacre une section spéciale intitulée "Brûlures" pour la publication des manuscrits de langue française. Cette section est éditée par le comité de rédaction en collaboration avec la Société Française de Brûlologie (SFB) et en constitue l'expression écrite officielle, ainsi que le vecteur d'information de la SFB vers ses membres. Elle poursuit le même but que la SFB et en a le même caractère multidisciplinaire (médical, paramédical et toute personne ou institution concernée). Elle contribue au Développement Professionnel Continu de membres de la SFB.

Les articles publiés représentent l'opinion du ou des auteurs et en aucune manière celle du MBC, de la SFB ni celle du comité de rédaction.
Les articles soumis à publication ne doivent avoir fait l'objet d'aucune publication antérieure ni soumission concomitante à une revue, excepté sous forme de résumé ou de rapport préliminaire. Tous les auteurs devront avoir participé de manière significative à l'étude ou à la rédaction de l'article.
L'auteur correspondant sera avisé de la réception de son manuscrit, auquel sera donné un numéro de référence (ANNxxxx) qui devra être rappelé lors de toute correspondance ultérieure.
Après acceptation pour publication, les articles ne pourront être repris dans aucune autre revue, en quelle que langue que ce soit, sans l'accord des éditeurs des ABFD.
Dès la publication de l'article, les droits d'auteur seront la propriété des ABFD et toute publication dans un autre média, sous forme similaire et dans quelle que langue que ce soit devra obtenir préalablement l'accord des éditeurs des ABFD. Toute utilisation de citations, tables et autres illustrations provenant d'un article accepté ou publié par les ABFD devra être expressément autorisé par les éditeurs des ABFD. En cas d'utilisation de tableaux, figures ou photographies provenant d'un autre article, les auteurs devront faire état de l'autorisation de reproduction (émanant habituellement de l'éditeur) et citer cet article dans les références.
Les auteurs devront faire état de l'absence ou de l'existence de conflits d'intérêts potentiels en regard de leur étude, et les préciser s'ils existent.
A ces titres, l'auteur principal devra, signer le formulaire "Responsabilité, considérations financières et transfert de droits d'auteur" (Copyright Form) et le joindre à son manuscrit.

AFBD se doit de s'assurer que les articles y figurant sont autant que possible exempts de biais. Dans ce but, les auteurs doivent faire aussi état de tous intérêts éventuellement contraire dès la soumission de leur manuscrit.

Considérations éthiques:
Les études publiées devront avoir été menées conformément à la "Déclaration d'Helsinki" du 22 juin 1994. Si leur type le nécessite, l'auteur devra attester de l'aval d'un CPP et pouvoir en produire une trace écrite à la demande de l'éditeur. En cas d'étude sur des patients, leur anonymat devra être préservé par tous les moyens nécessaires. S'il s'avère que des patients puissent être reconnaissables, leur consentement écrit devra être produit.

Présentation des articles:
Les articles devront être rédigés en Français. Ils seront dactylographiés avec un interligne simple, en 12 points.

- La première page (page de titre). Elle comprendra le titre de l'article, la liste des auteurs (initiale du prénom et nom), la ou les institution (s) des auteurs. En outre, le premier auteur précisera ses adresses électronique et postale ainsi que ses numéros de téléphone et de fax. Une photo du premier auteur y sera insérée.

- La deuxième page reprendra le titre de l'article. Elle comprendra des résumés de 250 mots maximum en Français et en Anglais, ne contenant pas d'abréviation. Chacun des résumés sera suivi d'une liste de 3 à 5 mots clés, choisis dans la même langue que chacun des résumés.

- Le corps de texte comprendra 5 sections principales lorsqu'il s'agit de rapporter une étude : Introduction, Matériel et Méthode, Résultat, Discussion, Conclusion. Un soin particulier doit être apporté à la discussion et au positionnement de l'étude par rapport à la littérature. Des abréviations peuvent être utilisées, elles doivent être précisées à leur première occurrence. Les abréviations des antibiotiques doivent être celles internationalement reconnues. Les noms taxonomiques doivent être écrits en italique. Les supports financiers éventuels devront être cités dans un paragraphe spécifique.

- Tableaux, figures, photographies: Ils seront rappelés séparément par type dans le corps de texte et leurs numéros incrémentés. Les photographies et images devront être enregistrés en format TIFF ou JPEG, et avoir une résolution d'au moins 300 dpi. Les illustrations devront être accompagnées d'une légende claire, de la référence si nécessaire. Elles devront elles même être claires, et apporter un éclaircissement ou une illustration utile à la compréhension du texte. Les figures et photographies doivent être soumis dans un fichier distinct et ne doivent pas être intégrés dans le texte.

- Références: Elles devront être numérotées par ordre d'apparition dans le texte et éventuellement dans les illustrations. Elles seront reprises à la fin du manuscrit et produites selon les normes de la convention de Vancouver. Les 4 premiers noms devront tous être cités. Au delà, il sera rajouté "et coll". Les abréviations des revues selon celles internationalement reconnues et utilisées dans les bases de données telle Pubmed. A titre d'exemple:

Les éditeurs pourront retourner le manuscrit à l'auteur, avant toute revue, si celui-ci ne respecte pas les données. Ils pourront lui demander, après revue, des corrections scientifiques avant acceptation. Les éditeurs se réservent le droit d'apporter des corrections de langage, si celles-ci ne dénaturent pas le contenu scientifique du manuscrit.

Après acceptation:
Une fois leur manuscrit accepté, les auteurs se verront demander une participation aux frais de mise en page, édition et traduction de leur abstact en anglais. La mise en page et l'édition seront réalisés une fois cette participation acquitée. Les auteurs devront approuver la version finale avant publication. En attente de leur insertion dans Annals of Burns and Fire Disasters, les articles acceptés apparaîtront dans "MeditLine"
